Overview

Addressing capacity issues in underserved regions requires identifying the right partner to invest in. The Greater Boston Food Bank partnered with the YMCA to establish successful food distribution partnerships in three regions. As part of this effort, I was contracted to create a business case to document the partnerships and share lessons learned for future strategic distribution efforts.

The aim of documenting these food distribution models and the partnerships involved was to provide others in the charitable food space with a learning opportunity and more resources to inform their future strategic distribution efforts.

Process

With support from the Greater Boston Food Bank, I identified key stakeholders in this partnership in Medford, Southcoast, and Boston and conducted qualitative interviews as well as an in-depth literature review of process documents to inform the case study development. The final case study was completed in 2022 and distributed in early 2023 across the GBFB, the Feeding America network, and with other emergency food providers regionally and across the United States.
